Mouse Paths: The Visual Timetracker

So this is what my Monday looked like.
mousePath-17_21_43

6 hours in Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefox and Thunderbird. The lines are my mouse movements. The dots are when it comes to a stop. The bigger the dot, the longer the stop. I’m pretty sure the big one is lunch and the other larger one is a ping pong tourney. A pretty neat (and mesmerizing) way to see how busy you were during the day. Here’s an overlay.

Overlay

Tracked by a little java program called MousePath, designed by a smarter guy than me named Anatoly Zenkov. Download it here and try it yourself. Good times.

  1. URL is broken..your site url is included in the link…FYI.

  2. Thanks for the heads up Brian – I fixed it (:

This is awesome! Now I can see how I waste my time at work! How did you get it to overlay on the desktop image?

  4. TJ – For the overlay, I took the MousePath file into Photoshop, took a screen shot of my workspace, dragged the Mousepath on top of the screen shot and changed the top layer transparency to ‘Multiply’ – ta da!

Hmm….maybe my meager techno-skillz are below this level of experimentation…where did you locate the mousepath file?

  6. TJ – I found out about Anatoly from his flickr page. You can find it here. He also has a version for PC available, if you need that. Enjoy – and feel free to share what your Mouse Paths look like – I’m interested to see how other people’s days go.
